On the road, when I should have been driving... I caught this shower pouring off the rocks.
My Super Tuesday
When we moved here to Palmer, we changed our driver's licenses, got plates for our car, and registered to vote. Tuesday was our first opportunity, and we were kinda excited. This race is more interesting and we are dying for a new president OF OUR CHOICE. So we voted first thing. Or tried to. We went to the wrong polling place, but eventually got steered to the correct one, where we met one of the only people we 'know' in town. This lady seems to be in charge of everything, knows everyone, and taught them in school. A good person to know. She just happened to drop by our house a few days ago, to see if we decided on a church yet....Um, not yet.
Our little town has less than 400 people, but it has really up to date voting machines. Computers! I was impressed. No paper ballots unless you are ancient and can't work a button I guess. I am not ancient, so I got to press the buttons. Thrilling.
It was also Mardi Gras and there was to be a drop in session at the quilt store with cookies! and since I have been waiting to have a reason to go again, I made a plan to bring my three new Bon Bons. But first I needed to stop at the nearby Wal-Mart for a few items, and then go on to the quilt store.
Note: When I say nearby, this is a joke. Nothing is nearby. It is 40 minutes to the quilt store at the maximum speed limit. But on the other hand, there is only one stop sign and one street light. And no traffic.
When it comes to shopping, I have one choice and it is always Wal-Mart. Or I can travel about 20 more minutes and get to a Target. My only complaint is that the great grocery stores are all the way into Chattanooga, and one really has to be prepared to bring the cooler for the long drive home, or the ice cream will melt. OK, I am not buying ice cream anymore, but you know what I mean.
My local W-store doesn't have a great produce section and their meat section is even stingier. Suppose I want some ground pork, or some lamb chops, or even a duck. Ha! No way.
But I digress.
I had never been to this Wal-Mart in Soddy Daisy (home of the quilt shop) but seeing it from the highway, I knew I could swing by and get my stuff and then proceed. I had a list, which I lost the minute I got in the store. Huge huge store, jam packed with everything which makes me forget my intentions. I remembered a few of the necessary items, and then found they had a fabric dept. which is good, since Wonder-Under is only $1.27 a yard there. I am stocked with two bolts already, but still, most W-stores are getting rid of their fabric depts.
And then I remembered bird seed, and in the adjacent area I found garden seeds.
One hour later I had a huge pile of HOPE. Our last frost date here is a full month earlier than in IL and I am so in the mood to plant stuff. I gathered and put back half of what I had chosen and then found another rack with seeds for a dime and thirty cents. Stuff I know will grow. Such a feeling of excitement overcame me. Six kinds of basil, and thyme, tarragon, oregano, salvia, and oodles of flowers. And I am going to start them in peat pots which I got in a pack of 72. Woowoo! So much promise for so little cash.
Time was speeding by and I was just about to check out, when I thought I would just swing by the grocery part of the store...
O my.
I wasn't going to buy anything. It was 73 degrees and I didn't bring the cooler. But ooohlala the produce was gorgeous and so was the meat, and soon I was loading my cart and finding the time short to make it to the quilt shop.

I decided I would just do a run in, show my quilts and then skeedaddle, but when I drove by the shop, only one car was in the lot, so home I went. Turns out they are on Eastern time, and my dawdling made it even later than I realized. O well, next time.
And next time I will bring the cooler.
Indeterminate. Grows as tall as the stake it's tied to.
I love seeing evidence that you have blogged from bed. Move over, make room.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that W store was such a find for you. Who knew?
Wally World Wonder Under: fantastic price, widely variable quality! Mark those bolts and use them first...even test them first.
ReplyDeleteWonder Under is the best product, but don't just assume the bolts from W-Mart will perform as expected.
I hope they are all new & perfect though, and you got a great deal!
Wow! You were very busy! You should just keep a cooler in your trunk.
ReplyDeleteYou will LOVE the Super Sweet 100.
