Toe Up Sock!
I like the techniques of knitting almost more than the product, and for some reason today I have found the patience and courage to teach myself the toes first version of sock knitting.
Why do the toe up?
No Grafting/Kitchener Stitch (where is my sewing needle?) at the end, and very little casting on at the beginning and little chance of the toe unraveling later. I started with a crocheted waste yarn and picking up only 8 stitches of knitting, compared to my usual 48 to cast on. That in itself is a major time saver. And then one can knit the foot and try it on as one knits, making sure that it is long enough for the owner.
This is the lovely edge sitting upon my clothed foot. Hmm...I seem to be using 4 needles again to make this. I can now switch back to a long circular needle and knit like the wind.
...O oh.. How do I do the heel after the foot is knit? Stay tuned as I find out the answer.
What is this beautiful yarn? The colors are so "you".

ReplyDeleteFor an alternate toe, I can recommend Judy's Magic Cast on. There's a good instructional video at Renaissance Yarns techniques page (no affiliation)--except I do it w/o a slip knot. LOVE it.
And I love toe-ups, always, but esp when the amount of yarn is sketchy, or the yarn is so fab that every last inch must be used.
