Swimming in Molasses

Pinup headboard?

Not too pretty a mental picture, but that's how I feel. Nothing inspires.

I unknit and reknit yesterday's stuff and my new pink headboard cover got made, but no art appeared on the horizon.

I was distracted by an ad in Mary Englebreit's Home Companion, from The Company Store. Was it the quilt and the 15% off coupon online that did it? Or just these quilts.

For a little bed like mine, these are all under $150.

Pieced and hand or machine quilted. I looked up close and they are really rustic/ shabby/ unrefined, but ooohh the pics are enticing. And I already have all those colors, in hand dyed cottons. But slogging through sewing them is not attractive.

Is it the product or the process? Hmmm.

What about the already half finished Tarantella, and the Tiramisu that I also wanted to make?

Tarantella ==================================== and Tiramisu from Pie in the Sky
I know that if I sit down and sew today, I will be this much closer to having another bedquilt. Or duvet cover...but nothing exciting to blog. So if you don't hear from me tomorrow, you know I sat down at the machine.

  1. When I feel un-creative, the best thing I've found is sitting down and doing the mindless sewing. Turn on the music, just let your mind wander. Pretty soon you will be back to creating AND you will be that much closer to finishing a "plain old sewing" project!!!

    Mel,
Be kind to yourself. Your holidays just ended. It's normal to feel blah for a while. Read a good book, enjoy watching the birds at the feeder, rest. You'll be back before you know it.

After churning out a bunch of art, I let myself off the hook for all of Dec. Plus I got sick. I just now got back into the studio and started a new project. I'm painting on batting for a change. So you've already been more creative than me. Cut yourself some slack--then get back in there and make some art, you slacker!! :)

  4. Nothing like a little shopping therapy to heal the doldrums. I have to go check out the Company Store.

  5. Sounds like the sun must be behind the clouds in your neck of the woods. Go for a walk and breathe in some fresh air. See how good we all are at giving advice?

  6. I've found the quilts/bed coverings I've purchased have HEAVY cotton batting in them and could never be washed. They are heavy to move around when making a bed also.

The tops you have started are pretty great. I know....if you just had someone to finish them for you.

  8. I always like to listen to a book on tape when I have some boring sewing to do - plus a quilt on a BED that YOU made, in your colors and fabrics can be pretty exciting when its done!!
