Get your own site Free

Hi….I am one of those people who don’t know how to get a “free” website to showcase my fiber art. Can you direct me on how to get started? I have the skills with my SLR camera to take the photos of my work but didn’t know that I could put them on line…..you are a gift woman…thank you,

Notice at very the top right hand side of this page, a black menu bar that says:

Create Blog Sign In

Follow that link and it will take you to a page where you can begin to make a blog from Google.

You say you don't want a blog? Well you don't have to write anything if you don't want, but you can use the space to post pictures of your work, you, your dog or whatever. I have several blogsites that I have used for paintings, quilts, selling stuff like fabric (in the past) and a private one for a temporary exchange with relatives. I know several people who set up blogsites just to post their vacation stories and photos.

I also did a search for free blog sites and found several others that will allow photos and text and are free. And if none of those satisfy, you can spend as little as $4.95 to have an upgraded site from other blog developers. Nothing should stop you from having your own controllable website.

I use Picasa2, another Google product, to download, edit and upload my photos. And when you have Gmail, also from Google, you can have slideshows on your blog, or available for the public as a link.

Many of my arty friends have regular websites (including me) but also have a blog so they can ramble, post other stuff, and just have control of current events in their careers. I use my New Works site to post the sizes of stuff and the dates I made it, so I can stay organized. Then when it came to updating the Wowmelody site, I had everything handy and it was soooo much easier.

So don't be afraid. You can try it out and see how it feels. Try several sites and see which one feels right to you. And I am sure that others who read this blog will have a zillion more suggestions. So check back in the comments section to see what they have to say.
