Building in Ease
^
I like to use inexpensive expandable curtain rods to hang my quilts, but I don't like the bump that the rod may cause. To prevent this, I put a bit of ease in the rod pocket.
I pin the rod pocket in place at the top of the quilt, and insert the rod. Then I press the fabric around the rod, and iron the bottom of the pocket to form a crease. This allows enough extra space so the rod isn't 'grabbed' by the quilt.
I hang my quilts from a system that uses a shelving standard screwed to the ceiling, and S hooks and fishing line looped over the ends of the rod. Or in this case, actual picture hangers.I have to have a way to hang many sizes of quilts, and I change them out often. This system is hardly noticeable since the eye usually sees the quilt first.
Mel,
ReplyDeleteI love your system for hanging your work and it looks like this one is cost effective. Others I have looked at are expensive. Thanks for sharing.
This is a great post. It inspires me to hang my quilts. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing so generously, both are terrific ideas and I really love your hanging system. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this tip on your hanging system. I have a small area that I want to make a gallery area for hanging my quilts and have been trying to figure out how to do this without making a hundred nail holes in the drywall since I will be changing out the pieces frequently. Another great thing about this is I won't need DH help in putting it up. Thanks for your wonderful blog.
ReplyDeleteHanging quilts has always been a challenge -- so I keep mine draped elsewhere. I much prefer the simplicity of your system, plus the ease in changing out quilts that it offers. Let me join those ahead of me in saying "Thank you for sharing"!!!
