Here we have two women of a certain age who have a tv series in GB called Rosemary and Thyme. On the left is Rosemary and the one holding the pots is Laura Thyme. Rosemary is a plant pathologist and Laura is a divorced housewife who was married to a cheating DI (detective inspector) and has a son who is still on the job (constable?) so she can do background checks etc.
They have a garden consultancy (oooo doncha love the way they talk across the pond) and go to great estates to fix and design gardens and solve MURDERS. This means lots of plants and flowers and landscape scenes complete with dead bodies.
This shot was taken in autumn but for the most part it is constant Spring, with everything imaginable in bloom. Quite the antidote to winter dullness. One gets plenty of gorgeous interiors too, plus the lunching at pubs where these gals have a lager or gin and tonic. How civilized.
The plots are fun to puzzle out but the fact that it is a mix murder and gardening is just so British and so my cuppa tea. Not to mention that these two are my age, and not constantly promoting navels and cleavage.
We have also just watched the entire series of dvds of Rescue Me, which is raunchy and hysterically funny and serious and so well written,
with a cast that is excellent. You'll laff, you'll cry, you'll put new batteries in your smoke detectors. Denis Leary and Daniel Sunjata
They are now on my list. I love British humor! I know I have told you before, but Saving Grace, the British movie is also a hoot! Order that one from netflix.
ReplyDeleteI love Rosemary and Thyme. It went in our television in central Europe too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on Rosemary & Thyme-sounds good!
ReplyDeleteReascue me has been a fav of mine since it started.

I want to go and garden with Rosemary and Laura. I love the subtle humor. Have you seen "As Time Goes By"? BBC series that is light and funny about a couple reunited after 40 years. Judy Dench is the main character. Have a great holiday in your new abode. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteMelody, its one of my fave serious but its not on at the moment but another one in the spring and the ol serous is on sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHad to look when you put GB
Then the penny dropped as l normally put UK, nice to hear you like the way we talk but l am from Lincolnshire and we are talk so differnt to how they talk as they have such a nice upper class voice but most is from drama schools that loads still go to when older. Still love you and your work.

Ohhhh, sorry can't share this interest with you because I don't watch television except for Arté. Only art and culture, nothing else.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE Rosemary and Thyme! I can watch those over and over, in part because of the gardens and in part because of Felicity Kendall and her wonderful hair. Doesn't it always look good?!
ReplyDeleteI too am an avid fan of Rosemary and Thyme when it runs here in Australia. I'm hoping in will be showing over the summer so i'll have something to watch when doing some hand sewing at night.
ReplyDeleteHi Melody, glad you enjoyed Rosemary & Thyme - one of our best bits of television recently (well, for those of us of a certain age it was!). There are at least three series, all available on DVD. They are great accompaniment when I am piecing or quilting! If you like this sort of English television, look out for a film called "Keeping Mum" with Maggie Smith, Rowan Atkinson and Kirstin Scott Thomas - absolute genius! best wishes, Beth
