October Gift

October Gift
12x24"
Hand dyed cottons and silks, hand and machine quilted.

Detail

An old drawing in my sketchbook gave me the format for this piece. But of course I was inspired by the colors all around me up here on the mountain. This is the second time I have used this sketch to make a quilt. The previous piece was called November Moon. It was sold to a lovely lady in California a few years ago.

The moon and tree are same, but everything else changed. I wonder how many other ideas this sketch will provide.

It was a really different experience making October Gift. It was made without that urgency that has been my mindset for so long. Just lovely to feel so relaxed. Sold.

Love this piece!! I'm wondering where you get the ideas for your sketches. Are they spontaneous doodles or are they a specific idea that you are getting down on paper?

I want to go live in the October Gift world. FL is still hot and sunny, and I'm too idle to go hunt down pictures that could become quilts in the heat. This looks rich, and warm, and crisp...
