Another overwhelming beige room comes into focus. We removed all of Dave's bedroom from this spot and brought it back downstairs. O my achin' everything. But bringing this stuff up was worth the effort. I have an ugly area rug covered with a 9x12 painter's canvas on the floor. The work table is sitting on bed risers from Bed Bath and Beyond and my old fart chair and ottoman are aimed at the tv for the moment. Things will change.
I tried to give away this white formica Parson's table and no one would take it. It doesn't come apart for easy moving so we didn't want to take it with us. Now of course, I am glad we did. One less thing to have to find and replace. This is one sturdy table which I bought about 16 years ago at a resale shop for $100, including two chairs which I discarded promptly. All I wanted was the table. It doesn't jiggle when I quilt on it.
The sewing machine is in the bedroom part of the loft and overlooks the living room. The cardboard box in front of the table holds a drawer system from IKEA, Alex is the name. I will try and get that assembled sometime soon, maybe even today.
I put the easel in the painting part of the loft and the paint is in that little rolling taboret. At least part of the paint is in there. There is much more in the garage, which will make its way up here later, after I get my shelves assembled. Is this creative? No, but it makes creativity possible.
I woke up with a taste for Potato Latkes. Another not on my diet meal. But oooohhh were they yummy. The potatoes were precessor-shredded and immediately parboiled to precook them, which prevents them from being gummy. Then doused in icewater to stop the cooking. I added two eggs (three small potatoes) and some flour, finely minced Vidalia onions, and salt and pepper.
A little bacon, and sour cream and voila! A girl needs some energy if she has a big day of furniture to assemble.
Hurray for creativity in a boring beige room! ;0) And hurray for potato latkes... damn but those do look good! Have fun putting it all together today... the room and the furniture.

ReplyDeleteI have one word of advice for putting together ikea: battery powered screwdriver.
I love ikea. I keep moving the stuff from one room to another. Josh now has a wall full of these shelves called "Artist". They used to be in the dining room. But now we have a "real" dining room, made by the Amish, so I put the shelves up in his room, which is now a guest room. For a guest that likes to have access to all my knitting, beading and general art books.
The latkes look yummy, but the bacon keeps them from being kosher. Also, try applesauce on them.
Looks like you and Dave are doing well. Mazel tov on your new home.

ReplyDeleteMy secret for potato latkes: Use frozen shredded potatoes. THEN, you don't have to process them, par-boil them or douse them in ice water.
Is there a Trader Joe's Market in your neck of the woods? They have the MOST divine frozen latkes. Defrost, bake and serve. The family didn't have an inkling that the latkes were store-bought last Chanukah! Hah!

ReplyDeleteFor your floors, how about vinyl remnants. I covered my studio floors with rolls of vinyl flooring - easy to clean, heavy enough to lie flat, and usually cheap. If you go to a flooring store, they have great sales and a little better quality than Home Depot.
