Exploring Chattanooga

We were on our way to see the art scene and neat shops on Frazier Avenue when my eye caught this great big word KNITTING. That's all I needed to make me scream, let's stop here!

It is a huge place, and while I don't actually need any yarn...eeeuuuww it wasn't yarn at all, it was a great big antiques place. Well, those are always full of kool stuff, so we browsed and poked and had lots of fun. I am kinda looking for a chest of drawers for my room. I found a few possible pieces but the drawers didn't pull out nicely and that drives me nuts. Then we came across a booth that had 60's vintage Scandinavian Design stuff, both priced in our range and in good condition. I wasn't ready to make a purchase as we hadn't been to the art district yet, and that was supposed to be our focus for the day.

Lunch first, at Panera, and then a walk about town ...OK let's go back and get that chest. No we didn't go in one gallery, or museum. So I have found them and will return. I promise. With camera.

The chest was purchased and then to get it in the car

it took a committee. That nice woman in the red sweater was convinced we could do it.
But it took the experienced mover guy in the white shirt to tie it down securely. In one hour on the highway at 65mph I got it home without mishap.

Very 60's with sturdy drawers, no wiggling, and plenty of room. I didn't put it in my room because it absolutely matches Dave's teak Scan Design bed. We are sharing it, clothes wise and it is so much better than our last system, skimpy wire basket drawers.
And it pretty much holds Dave's TV at the right height.

One word about downtown artsy Chattanooga. It is built on the Tennessee River and has a bunch of new bridges, including a walking bridge. The waterfront park is gorgeous with grass like a putting green. Lots of restaurants, theaters, entertainment (a great aquarium) and stuff to see. So very easy to get around, uncrowded, immaculate and pretty. I am so excited to have this small town with a big town feeling right at my fingertips.

Nice chest of drawers, I love scandinavian furniture too. Maybe you could start a small collection.

Glad you're finding North Chatt. We go there from Huntsville, AL often, since the art is soooo much better. Try the River Street Deli for lunch next time you're there; it's on the river side of Frazier Ave, facing the parking area for the river park. They have great soup and sandwiches, and great salads.

There's a very interesting fiber art display at the Visual Arts gallery on Frazier, acid dyed wool. It's next door to the shop with the blue skeletons riding bikes, surrounded by blue pumpkins. And the art museum is pretty good, particularly the blown glass collection.

  4. Oh that all sounds perfect. Wish I knew which kind of coat to buy for the winter there...

  6. Brooke, you won't need much of a coat if you are coming in winter. A fleece-lined windbreaker JACKET did me fine all last winter.

There's a free trolley car that runs up and down the main down town area and it's wonderful for when you get too tired to walk anymore! The Aquarium is awesome too!
