The Easy Part is Over
-
This is the wall in the media room where I'd like to be hanging new artwork. I haven't made the art yet, and I still have a 'warehouse' full of good stuff that would work in this room, but of course I want to make specific art for this space.
But here's the rub. Those sconces are creating a shadow between them on the wall. They have to go. I need an electrician like Chico on Divine Design to come in and install recessed lights in the ceiling and take out these 'obstructions'.
This will not be so easy. I have two walls with sconces like this. Note the extreme BEIGENESS of this room. I want to paint a wall red, at least one wall. But first we need to remove the lights or I will be painting twice.

And then there's the stove pipe which refuses to come down. When it is de-installed then we have to patch the ceiling. We have heard from our fave hero Eugene that he has the right stuff to do the job, since our walls have a pebbly skim coat on all of them. So in the meantime, this mess just sits there waiting.

Speaking of mess...We have four remotes to run the new TV and DVD player. I have no idea how to work any of it. Grrrr.

Yeah. It's hard to get used to you and beige. Just unsettles me a little.

  2. How well I know--everything you want to do depends on getting something else done first before you can proceed.

  3. If you really hate the sconce lights then they have to come down, but have you considered using that light source as part of your art installation? If you can find the mounting bracket that orients the light bulbs out the side (parallel to the walls), you could build the art pieces so that part of it would be mounted in front of each light. That way, when the light was on, there would be a glow from behind that piece of art and would perhaps illuminate other sections hanging on either side. You could have this whole multidimensional overlapping art installation going on. Just an idea but if anyone could pull it off it would certainly be you!!! And I am so loving your descriptions of the "farm" - keep them coming!

  4. Nearly every day, at some time, I wish that Chico would drop by my house and do some electrical work. He makes it look sooo easy.

  5. Only four remotes? I am counting 13 from where I am sitting (in the man-chair while DH is at work.) He tunes the satellite receiver to HGTV for me before he leaves in the morning ! It is Video Input 6. LOL

  6. We use a Logitech Harmony 676 http://reviews.cnet.com/remote-controls/logitech-harmony-676/4505-7900_7-31087637.html to control the remote clutter. The house is looking amazing. Thanks for all the inspiration!

a fabulous red for your wall, that's not fire engine, but lively and warm but doesn't scream is Red Clay by Pratt and lambert. Check it out. I did my living room and love it even two years later.
