Love This Table!
=
The Alvin Workmaster with a 36x48" top
When I ordered it I hoped it would be half this nice. It is really sturdy, yet moveable and will be even more moveable when I get the casters for the bottom. Dave and I put it together in less than 15 minutes and got rid of my previous table and suddenly my studio seemed so much bigger. I removed the canvas dropcloth from the floor, since it was impossible to vacuum the scraps up from the last project, and will only use it when I get around to painting. Speaking of painting, this table is going to be fab for watercolor painting. If you need a table like this read this first. Mine came from here.

But for quilting (or fusing, really) I need to make this an ironing surface. I only use an iron on a stick thingy, so there isn't much to worry about ruining the top, but even so, I covered the surface with two layers of felt and then my large teflon sheet almost covers that whole top.

I was nearly done with the new piece, so I had the rest of the afternoon to enjoy finishing it. I will no doubt make a fitted top layer, adding a cover of Rain No Stain by Roc-lon (Joann Fabrics) my favorite pressing surface. It is white cotton and has a latex backing to prevent water from soaking in. I have used it as my ironing covers for zillions of years.

What's this? Another quiche? Yes, but crustless. I used all the usual ingredients but this time I tossed in a half cup of Bisquick and used a veggie spray on the Pyrex pie plate to prevent sticking. It turned out great, and faster than the usual quiche. I won't say its lower in calories, but it seems like it might be.
OK. I'm dreamin'.

Today I am quilting the new piece, working title :yardstick quilt, because it is 36"wide. And I am possibly gonna have a visitor. We'll see.

Did you throw out your large folding table that was standing under the window last time I saw it?

did you say you got the new table from ikea? I didn't see it online. I am tall and have trouble finding a table that's the right height for my sewing machine. think this would work? an adjustable chair hasn't worked thanks L.

  4. Laura I got the table from www.nationwidedrafting.com not from IKEA. It goes far down and high up. I think it would work for you.

  6. This table is great! Thanks for the link. Is it the Alvin Workmaster? What size is the top? How heavy is it if you need to move it? I am really looking for something like that. Enjoy it!

Melody, Would this table work well for a cutting table since the height can be adjusted? Just wondering if the top is stable for that purpose. Thanks!

  8. Yes. It is terrifically stable *before I put on the wheels which may make it wiggly, we'll see.*
And there are such things as surfaces that are made for drafting tables which are self healing like quilt mats. I don't know if I will bother getting one, since I have many mats and need to iron on this padded surface too.
