The New Studio

The master bedroom faces west and has the most windows and the best light. But this makes it not so great for afternoon sleeping, and it gets really hot on those days when the thermometer reaches the 90's. And since Dave wakes up every two hours to take meds, this means he needs several naps during the day...All this works together to the grand result that this bedroom is now going to become my studio!! We are both happy about this.
The upstairs bedrooms will work out great for us. Cool and dark at night and more private and removed from the activity areas. Nothing has been moved into the former studio space yet, so this morning we will disassemble the bed and have a comedy of errors moving it all upstairs. We've done this before and know that a queen size mattress has a mind of its own.

The light is really wonderful in this room and it will be easy to get room darkening shades for those hot summer days. (Don't tell Dave!)

On a not so happy note: While we were away moving, the water line to the icemaker decided to leak behind the refrigerator. The soft pine floors have been warped and we have two fans drying them out now, but I am afraid we will always have the reminder that water sat here for a week. Boo hoo.

Our unloading took only 11 hours and we managed to get all the books into the 'media room'. We have called this back room any number of names and still haven't felt the name worked. It will house the library, the fireplace, the yet un-purchased flat screen tv and even the guest bed.

I have dreamed of having all my books together like this. So wonderful.

There are two bookcases that remain empty (not pictured here) and I have plans for more books on the following topics: chicken raising, garden design, living green, and storage solutions.

  1. Melody,
I am a big fan of your work. I too own chickens and If i were to pick the all time fav book it would be "living with chickens" by Jay Rossier. tons of info and great photos. Different Q? I am free motion quilting, darning foot, tried different treads, needles, feed dogs up and down and I keep breaking threads. So often its almost comical. I am usuing sulky tread. Any advice?

Today's better homeowners insurance policies usually cover appliance leaks and subsequent damage, minus the deductible.

Sugarcreekstuff, try a different needle. Bigger eye. Loosen tension. Read FAQs at www.superiorthreads.com--he's got a LOT of good info--more than you'd ever want to know--about thread!!!

  5. Might I suggest "hearth room" for your wonderful library/fireplace/tv room? It sounds warm and cozy... although that may be less of an issue there than in Chi-town!
