Now Here's the Plan...

We've decided to rent a cargo van for our Move: Part One. We are bringing the beds, sofa, old fart chairs, tables, a tv, a stereo, some dishes/pots, lamps, clothes and two laptops. But mostly the riding lawn mower needs to go in the van. I will be driving the PT Cruiser, our last non-truck car. If you live in the country and don't have a truck, what are you, nuts?

And we are bringing Popeye. This will be a trick and a half. We got him a carrier BIG ENOUGH for his voluminous self and we know he will hate every minute of the ten hour drive. I think I will be his chauffer, as I have developed the ability to ignore whining.

Frieda Anderson came over for lunch today with the enticement of a pound of bacon and all the olives she could eat. And I owed her money. By the time she left I sold her two Billy shelf units Billy times two
and 100 meters of printcloth, reducing my debt to a mere $92. I paid her from my garage sale profits.

Frieda forgot to bring home the bacon

This is the before picture of my studio, which had these great gray pin-up walls on one end. Frieda has always wanted these panels which were discontinued the minute I bought them, years ago.

This is the studio with all those panels removed and loaded into Frieda's van.

What a difference!

A few weeks ago Dave suggested we sell everything and start over fresh. I laffed. That would take so much effort I thought. Wrong again. The load gets lighter everyday.

Back to the plan. We will be renting the van on Saturday, loading it and driving to Tennessee on Sunday, closing the deal on Monday and sleeping in our new house for the first time on July 30th. I won't have internet access for a while I suppose, unless I can find a restaurant that offers it. We'll see. But in the meantime, know I am dying to blog.

See you when the dust settles!

I'll be antsy for any and all new news while you are gone.

I thought you were going to renovate before the move in or did you have someone else do the renovation?

It is my dream to retire in Canada if the Canadians and their Govt. will let me in. Purchase an Acreage and just live wild and free and golf (almost forgot that)

This is really getting to the exciting stage. I wonder how Popeye will get along with his new family members.

Did you notice that Dave's and Popeye's eyes share the same 'look'. Serious, no-nonsense.

  4. Congrats on the move! Wishing you lots of good luck with the drive over to your new abode! Remember to take lots of before pics so that we can ooh-and-awe when you get everything decorated in that fabulous colorful Mexican style.

Umm, you did check to see if dsl is actually offered in the area right? Some rural areas do not have dsl or cable yet and Direct TV doesn't provide internet access in all areas. Sorry to bring up a difficult point, but I look forward to your blog.

It's highly unlikely DSL will be available in a rural setting - you must be within a several miles of a phone company switching office or DLS just doesn't work. Cable is your best bet, and it's much faster than DSL. If you have no cable (which is doubtful but you should know by now), then satellite download and (unfortunately) dial-up modem upload is the only option. But maybe it's different in TN.

  9. Wow! Life without dsl? Is there such a thing? Say it isn't so, Mel.

The studio looks so empty! Can't wait to see your new one!

It is amazing that once you found the place it all happened overnight. Or so it seems to me, who hasn;t spent the last week or so dismantling a home.
I wish you an easy move and a wonderful chapter II.

Melody, I suggest you have your vet give you some Kitty Downers. They stress out easily. I thought my cat would be OK, but she needed them 1 day into the my relocation trip.

Melody, I love reading about your recent adventures. It is so inspiring because we will be going through this soon. My husband is thinking of retiring next year and we may sell our home in California and move out of state because it is so expensive here, but I have always lived here and our children and grandkids are here too. WE just got back from looking at property in Oregon. I found a couple of homes I loved. And we may look in Idaho next year. How did you ever decide to move to Tennesee? It is such a huge commitment. Love your blog, you are a hoot.
