Condensing
O yeah, this is a quilting blog...
I managed to squeeze this queen size quilt into a twin size zipper bag. Space is at a premium.
One of many pieces that are not going with us. This went to Goodwill last night, along with a carload of clothes, many of which were from Goodwill originally. I thought a carload full would make a dent in my closets. ha! There's a reason why when couples divorce the wife usually stays in the house. For example:
I condensed and emptied books from these two bookcases into the remaing six. Two shelves of six bookcases were for Dave, the rest are all my books. Same with the clothes. He condensed his drawers and had three empty ones. I condensed mine and then found more stuff to fill them, including his. Mostly socks. I still have a sock problem. I can't find anyone who wants used socks. My mind is whirling will a strange combination of guilt and satisfaction as I cull and pack and giveaway. Guilt that I am such a consumer, and satisfaction that can I donate it all to someone (like me!) who will find a great bargain.
I think I will have a garage sale of furniture today and see if I can prevent moving it. Last minute plan...no signs, no ads in the paper...but hey, we live on Main Street.
If you're giving away your beautiful handmade socks, used or not, I'll take them. I just ordered a couple of books on how to make silly sock critters. All I have are boring white and neutral colored socks. Which will make for equally boring critters. Am enjoying watching your progress in packing and condensing. We made a similar move a year ago to a place 1/2 the size of our old place. Just take it one day, and one dresser at a time. Good luck. Gilli
ReplyDeleteHa! Is that why my house is still full of stuff after he left 13 years ago???
ReplyDeleteTake your clean but unwanted (only the ugly or boring ones)socks,T-shirts, etc and stuff them into an old pillowcase or a couple of old bathtowels sewn into a large pillow and donate it to an animal shelter. This way you have eliminated more stuff and done a good deed at the same time!

Melody-
ReplyDelete#1 thing in retirement is to turn off the alarm clock (or get rid of it)!
Been enjoying your posts because we are moving off to AZ after 30 years here in Albuq. We decided it was time to snip off the roots we had grown and move on to new people, places and things. Since we did not have children either we could decide where we want to be.
Best wishes to you with your new adventures!
I love that table as well.
ReplyDeleteWe moved 6 months ago and I still need to purchase another cupboard with shelves to finish organizing my sewing room. Am enjoying your progress and keeping an eye out for good ideas.
ReplyDeleteIf you are wanting to get rid of knitted socks..........I wear them all winter up here in Saskatchewan!!! Always looking for people who knit socks (usually I swap trade for them)!!!
ReplyDeleteRural living makes it tough to meet the neighbors. Unless they have a reason to visit you may never see them.
ReplyDeleteIf you were to hold a garage sale after you got to TN it would be a good way to meet all the neighbors. Plus, people in the South will appreciate your generosity and you'll perhaps gain a few close friends just by giving away/selling some of your extra stuff.
Just an idea or two.
I love following your move and packing progress! You're quite the inspiration, as hubby is trying to get me to think about moving from SD to FL. Refreshing to read how you guys just DID IT! Good for you! Too bad I'm not closer to IL....I'd be coming to your yard sale! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGosh, Melody, your new abode is beautiful. Very peaceful and serene. You will surely enjoy retirement there in TN. About the socks, I have coveted your socks since you began posting them. I would be glad to take them (used or not) off your hands. I would swap you something, but I hear you saying you don't need anything else. I love those happy socks you knit. I also want to say, I'm glad to have taken a class from you last year in Denver Mancuso show. It was a blast!
