Socks for the Invisible Woman
I love miters, and I knew there was a pattern in one of my books and magazines for socks that included miters, but when I found the actual pattern, I didn't like the way it was constructed. I would have had to think. Nope. I figured I could design the miters the way I would like to knit them and see what happened. A bit of trial and error and pretty soon I liked what was happening and went for it.
I actually started with the ribbing, 48 stitches for one inch or so. Then using the first 12, I cast on an additional 13 to make my first miter. Each miter after that was partly using the previous square's stitches, and casting on the rest. The produced a partly connected flat piece. When all the miters were made I used a three needle bindoff to connect the rest of the leg. It sounds way more complicated that it was. It couldn't have been difficult, as I was doing it all in airplanes and airports. The demure pose.
I now have enough socks to have a sock closet.
O Yes, I have used yesterday's rejected shoe storage bags for my shoes, which were already in the baggy thing on the left in the picture above. So what to do with an empty shoe bag? Add socks! So much easier to find the socks I want than my stuffed to the gills sock drawers. The third storage is for my shawls. O dear. What have I become?
What have you become? A knitaholic/sockaholic...but we already knew that. You have the luckiest feet on the planet.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm, lots of red and purple... what does that say? Oh, yes, a poem comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteI thought you were going to warmer weather? You won't need those heavy socks, but I still will.....hint... subtle hint.
Invisible to those who are color blind, lol.
ReplyDeleteI started another pair just as I cast off the 2nd of my last on
Sunday! I MUST have something in my hands, it keeps my brain from thinking about everything else to great detail. While that may sound counterproductive, it works for me!
I am like quiltingfitzy. Must have knitting. However, am going broke buying snazzy yarn. So, I thought make socks. Not much yarn needed. BTW, those are splendiferous! Can you recommend a simple sock pattern for someone whose not made socks before?
