I admit, I got no painting done yesterday. It was all errands, all the time for me. And then when I finally got home, I cleaned up the studio, mixed new paint in my new pots and put away books etc etc.
Then what to paint today? I looked for inspiration online and scouted out all the Paintings a Day websites of which there are many. Just take a look at this list. Tons of painters! But you will note, not many are painting in an non-objective style. Nope. Everyday objects, familiar subject matter. Nothing wrong with that, but just not what I wanna paint.
My art books offered nothing much, so as is so often the case, I returned to the sketchbooks. By the time I thumbed through #3 I was getting pretty panicky. Then I found something that lit my fire. Some ink sketches for quilts (of course) did the trick.
It wasn't until I put those four dots in the design that I saw the familiar adobe motif appear.
Hey, it's a series!

  1. It has been wonderful to watch the paintings develop and the process unfold. Thanks. I wonder when the paintings, like the quilts, will get big, like wall sized.

Merry Christmas from West Virginia and wishing you a Color-filled and Creative New Year.
