Orbit Series #2

Orbit Series #2

12x16" Acrylic, ink and gel pens, colored pencil on 100% rag Arches paper

I hesitated to do another painting yesterday, fearful that I couldn't repeat the 'success' of Sunday's work. Fear is no good. Getting back on the horse is the only way to really gain confidence.

I am continuing to work in nuetrals in an attempt to refine the idea, and not to have it complicated with juicy paint or glorious color. So in my mind this is more of a painted drawing, which is another approach to making a painting, in a long list of possibilities.

Making a big mess and then refining it into something is also a part of this lesson for me. I am defining the structure and the masses and then finding the distractions and painting them out.

Again the details show me that the simpler I allow the painting to get the better it looks. The hardest lesson for me is to leave out the details. I will continue to try though.

  4. I find your sudden change in color palette intriguing. The painting suddenly becomes about line, shape, light and dark.

Watching you work through this is like being hooked on a juicy soap opera! Keep pushing!
