Sock Madness
Today I have discovered I have an illness that must be cured.
.
I decided to clean out my chest of drawers, which I laughingly refer to as my lingerie chest. Of seven drawers, three were jammed full of socks. None of these were my hand knit sox.

Those are in a Rubbermaid bin on the closet floor. I counted them and see I have given a way quite a few pairs, and am down to only 24 and two half finished (one sock each) of two more pairs.
I have tossed out one whole drawer's worth of holey faded worthless socks and still have two very full drawers. I am going to try and break this habit but need help. How many socks does a mentally healthy woman need?

Gift socks modeled by David Walker.

Oscar Socks for watching the Oscars in.

Two pairs that got started and are awaiting the other sock...

So are three from the same skein of yarn not a pair?

The only time I wore these before I gave them away...

I once did this and it was up to 32 pairs, yet that was not counting the black and white pairs in two other drawers...

I feel rich with lots of socks. I fear running out. I have nightmares of going to school in my mother's socks, too big and loose for my tiny feet and then find them slipping down into my shoes, exposing my dirty ankles...

As God is my witness I will never run out of clean socks again!

Can anyone tell me when enough is enough?

  1. Ms O'Melody,
my motto for life is "everything in moderation - except for the things I really like, which I can go to complete excess over". Embrace your socks! I think you have a wonderful collection.

What? No odd socks resulting from laundry mysteries? If so, then what's your no-loss secret, Mel? Or do you have a very short "sock retention schedule" for holding on to odd ones hoping for the mate to show up?

My criteria for enough socks takes into account having stock to cover loss by laundry and loss by holes.

One can never be too rich nor have too many socks.

Yeah....thanks....like I don't have enough yarn and finished socks. It IS a disease. So, of course, I ordered some from Emily (and was disappointed that several others were sold out).
