More Practice
Quick study, oils, 16x20"
What I am doing is getting a feel for brushwork. I have been using larger brushes than usual so I can't dink around with details. And I of course don't have a real model at my fingertips, so I am making up figures, which means that the lithesome poses are not so lithesome. This one has a bit of a stiffness to it. Nonetheless, I feel that I am getting looser, if only in my ability to let go of my first attempts. This painting was done in less than 30 minutes, which is good for preventing dinkin' around.
I look at her and see a dancer ready to move in on her partner...it appears there is a door behind to the right...I see a story here......she is a woman who is sure of herself.....I like a painting that makes me ask questions and imagine....
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful - I don't really see a stiffness to it, more like she is poised to move or pounce. And without "dinkin around" as you say (LOL) you manage to convey muscle tone in the "unclothed" thigh and arm, the hands grippint the table as if about to push herself up and into dance, or attack... This is a beautiful piece of work! I've said it befor and I'll say it again - YOU ROCK!
ReplyDeleteIt's clear you have handled paint before, and you've done drawing and representing the human figure (and its proportions) correctly... the paintings are fabulous, and I feel a new energy here. Keep it up. Then try it in cloth?
