Jet the Pet
Thanksgiving Day 2005
Jet in a more recent shot. He has been getting scrawny for a long time and his fur is a series of mats, which if they were cut away, he would look even worse. He has his dignity if nothing else.
As he grew older his fangs got longer and we often referred to him as Fang Face. He also lost his hearning and therefore meowed VERY LOUDLY at inauspicious times of night. This caused him to be Kitty non grata for many weeks.
Here he is in Popeye's vise-like grip, both of them doing what they did best. Sleep.

He was a super great cat with a very big personality. My favorite memories include him in my arms looking up into my eyes with one fat furry paw kneeding my arm. All his many misdeeds instantly forgiven.
He could be very insistent, begging for attention when I blogged at the laptop. He would head-butt my hands while I tried to type and not let up until I put him on my lap. Dave uses the desktop computer and Jet loved that, since his lap was made so available.
I'll be blogging alone now. Goodbye Jet. We'll miss you.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your kitty.
ReplyDelete(I've been meaning to de-lurk for a while now. My husband grew up in Cary and I found your blog a while back and have been enjoying it. Sorry I waited to say hi until this sad time.)
I am so sorry to hear about Jet - my heart goes out to you both! Its so hard to lose a loved one. In the past month I too just lost my "Jet". They had a lot in common. I miss his greeting when I come in the door, but thankfully, am sleeping soundly through the night now.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed the blogs about the cats even when their antics were perhaps not quite as amusing to you and Dave.
ReplyDeleteI know you'll miss Jet very much. I hope Popeye will be okay without him.
So sorry to read about your kitty. I am a catlover and know how they can wiggle into your heart.

Sorry to hear about Jet, Mel. I'll miss our 3 way conversations on the phone.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Jet. It's always hard to lose a beloved member of the family. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteOh, Mel -
ReplyDeleteI'm SO sorry! It's obvious Jet had a place in your heart - and that hole is not an easy one to fill. As someone who is owned by six cats (affectionately known as the Six-Pack), I can understand the loss of your special kitty.
Give Popeye some extra attention as I know he'll be feeling the pain, too.
Godspeed, Jet. Have fun playing at the Rainbow Bridge!
I'm sooo sorry Melody and Dave.... it's very hard for me not to cry while typing this... i think sometimes kitty/doggy losses are more difficult than human....
ReplyDeleteLove, Natalya
I'm sorry to read about your loss, Melody. I type this with my own 15-year-old on my lap, purring away as she seems to be drowning in her own bad lungs. She'll let us know when we have to make that drive, fairly soon I fear. Her sister will be lonely, as I know your other cat will be. I guess all we can do is love them while they're with us. Be well.
ReplyDeleteole Jet is up there with old George giving God a very hard time...........and loving it!!
ReplyDeleteI missed this, being in FLA. So sorry to hear Jet has passed over. He, he....I imagine he will be having fun now that his body will no longer limit him.....

Hi Mel, I just got home from Italy so I apologize for the lateness of my condolences. It's never easy losing a pet, no matter what. Goodbye Jet. I know you've left an empty hole in the hearts of your people.
ReplyDeleteJust getting to this post... I am so sorry to hear about Jet. Just this morning I was saying how much I dread the eventual loss of my cat Spike, aka Booga.
ReplyDeleteTrue companions are a rare thing, and I'm sorry for your and Dave's loss....
