Playing instead of packing

Diamonds #1
27" x 29" Fused hand dyed cottons
Well, in my defense, those light values were just too hard to resist. And I already had the medium colors fused, so it was only a matter of whacking off (you'll pardon the expression) a strip from each color and soon I had a set of three large blocks. The light values were made on Saturday so they were ready to go.

I am so familiar with this range of colors in my work, and tried hard not to include the very brightest hottest colors. The yellow is much softer than my usual choice. Still it is so much brighter and more intense than the yellow in the lighter blocks.

My plan is to increase the range of values I usually go for in my work. This series is simple enough to make several examples using this same design idea.

I have used random sized half-square triangles and if they are too short, I add more fabric in strips.

This is a collage made in Picasa 2. It gives me ideas.

  1. This piece manipulated piece that you did in Picasa is wonderful. I can't see doing all those timy pieces tho'. You would go crazy but you could use the basic concept. It looks like so much fun.

  2. FYI: I am not likeing the large turquoise font on this post! I do like the quilt, however. You already have students signed up for Art Quilt Claremont. It is a pretty cool venue.

thanks for the quilt history. I've been a Nancy Crow fan for years and have found so much inspiration from the book I have about her. I just ordered the new one from Amazon yesterday and can't wait to get my hands on it. Have fun upstate. Hopefully the weather will get a little warmer for you. It's very pretty up there. Wish I could have made the class. Maybe next time. Safe travels, Dee

  4. The Picasa collage is very cool! I like the way it plays into the cross shapes you've been working with. I hope you end up doing something with this idea!
