Thinkin' Ahead

The Neglected, yet Necessary, Light Values
I am sending off some of the fabrics that we will use in our workshop at Hudson River. This is not all that I will bring, but I have a big box to fill and along with the darks that I dyed on Sunday, I think I have enough to fill the box.

The darks, ripped into fat quarters.

Dave at his blog...
Last night I got in my bed early to watch TV and snooze and wait for Dave to come up to join me. He did appear mid-Letterman to say that he was still writing and in the middle of a poem and had a block...
What???
Who is this man, and what have you done with the old Dave? I cannot believe the complete transformation that has taken place since he began writing his blog. He is such a surprise to me since this evolved. His writing is amazing, funny and clever. I never knew he had this in him. Actually he didn't either. He is just as surprised about it as I am.
Not to embarrass him, but in our 27 years of marriage, he never read one stinkin' book. Now he has written enough to fill one!
He stayed up til 2am writing this last blog, and when I went to read it this morning, he hadn't yet published. One mustn't disturb the muse, but...
I am delighted to have an author with such a following (!) already, in the house. He has a daily purposefulness that I enjoy watching. And it makes it easier for me to go directly to my laptop without discussion in the morning and write my own entry.

  1. Ah, Mel, this is such a delight to read this morning with my coffee. You and Dave are experiencing a honeymoon time :)

  2. Please look into some kind of off-line editor for blogging so that Dave doesn't spend time dredging up his soul only to have Blogger vaporize it.

I use an add-on to Firefox called "Performancing". Or at least get him to compose in Word or somesuch. It's SO discouraging to lose a long-labored over post, nevermind a true creative endevour like poetry.

  3. Uh, he didn't lose his post, he was just carefully editing his prose and then his poetry. I tried to get him interested in preposting in Word, and for some reason...he didn't want to.
He isn't quite ready for copy, cut and paste yet.

  4. Mel, I love the fabrics and I can't wait to do mine. I finally have everything I need now. One bolt of unbreached muslin for sueded blacks and 100 yard roll of PDF. oh oh I need to go to the dollor store for dying containers still. I have been collecting my stuff since October 2005 lol.
About Dave, I love his blog. Sometimes I go visit his before yours hahahahha...

Boy, would I love to mug you on your way to the post office with this box of fabric! Too gorgeous. Those gals out east don't know how lucky they are between beautiful fabrics and you as their fearless leader.

  7. Hello,
My name is LB, and I have been reading your blog for months now. I am such a lurker, but I just have to de-cloak to say I love seeing the stacks of fabric like that- the pastels look like flavors of sherbet.
Love your blog, the tips for quilt artists, the art and inspiration you share with all of us.
    Thanks for blogging!

  8. Love the fabrics!

Tell Dave that it's all about consistently writing and when he's touched with a flow, to go along with it!
