Orange!!!

In the spirit of using what I have, I knit this tiny shawl last night. Only 150 yards each of 2 yarns in dk and eyelash. It rilly needs to be blocked, if there is any hope of making it look like an actual shawl and not a sailor collar. I have one top that I could wear with this...if I am really desperate.
However there is a theme going on here, and needless to say it is all about orange.
I wasn't kidding about tossing out old magazines in my tidying up binge. I also tossed out catalogs, some as old as 2003! But I found myself scrounging through the recycleables looking for the Crate and Barrel catalogs for color schemes.

I am so attracted to the citrus and turquoise combinations. For me this is a limited palette.

I cut out these particular pictures and gathered fabric to match. Like I had to have the pictures right there...

I gathered every single one I liked, just in case. I guess I will have to start a scrapbook for this stuff now. I have empty scrapbooks already, never fear. Doncha just love a blank book?

(*note the brownish sheet these are lying upon)
Of course I ALREADY HAVE the right colors, already fused. So I methodically grouped them and cut them all the same size and fused them together in strips of strips.

The red/orange group is 8" by 54", the middle group is 6.25" and much longer and the third group is not yet all up on the wall but is 4.5" wide. I am not sure how these will all work in one quilt, and maybe they won't but it is really interesting to group similar colors, instead of my usual high contrast fiesta colors.

The difference between good Wonder-Under behaviour and bad release paper. Grr.

However my wonderful student Patricia Gaignat has found a source for really large *teflon sheets. I just ordered 16 (to get free shipping) for myself and my fusing friends. I intend to bring them along wherever I teach...Of course we hope Pellon will resolve this situation in the very near future, but until then I will be peeling off the fusible and using this teflon sheet to adhere the stuff to the fabric. It is actually faster than using the paper. It holds the heat immediately and therefore transfers it to the fusible instantly, making removal of the sheet faster too.

Here is the link!

Very nice colorwork. I lke the older C&B catalogs, they have some fun color combinations.
I've had my share of mishaps with the fusibles as well, and the teflon sheets have reduced that a bit, but still not to my picky likings. I'll follow along to see how you make out.

  6. Love those colors! One of the gals on the QuiltArt mailing list sells teflon sheeting by the yard. I think she has it in two widths. I thought I had saved her email but, nope, must have tossed it during one of those periodical cleaning outs of the emails. Of course with 16 sheets you won't need any more ... but ... ya never know!

I am having a bad Wonder Under day too. I have warned the person I got it from and sent her the Pelon suggestion you posted in Feb. Thanks.
