The Backwards E Cast-On
I was asked by Shirley Goodwin (New Zealand!) about the E cast-on for the shawl directions I blogged on the 15th. I found these perfectly pictured directions in Book 1: The Knit Stitch by Sally Melville, which is also where I got the Shawl-a-tosis Disease. Page 46, The Shape It! Scarf. Of course I couldn't stick to her directions, so mine isn't like hers. But close enough and dizactly what I wanted.

The shawl I knit is about 15 inches deep in the center back, but when you make it, you can decide how big you would like it to be. That's the beauty of knitting.
Thanks, Melody. I'll post a photo when I've finished mine - it's in a mohair and fine wool combination. Errr...do feel free to post a link to my blog when you mention my name - I am into shameless self-promotion!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Caity - that is the only way I know how to cast on. I am self-taught and thought it was my own dorky method!!
ReplyDeletehahhaha I immediately order her two books the knit and purl one. I am a beginner and if Mrs. Mel has her books, they must be good for me. I did download your instruction on the shawl also, just in case.

Hi Melody,
ReplyDeleteIs it the cast-on method found on KnittingHelp? There is a backwards cast-on there in video format.

It doesn't say 'backward e' on the site though.
