My plan for the day was to get an early start and go to my brother's to get my laptop fixed, but he postponed the fix until today. Then I was going to spend the rest of the day working on my new quilt.
Since I have finally gotten back into my size 8's, a little celebratory souffle was in order. I haven't made one in years, but it turned out OK... at least from this angle.
The real truth is I used five eggs instead of four and my excuse is that I was blinded by the light. I got most of it off the oven floor.
The day was just gonna be too nice to stay indoors. The forecast was for a high in the 40's, no wind to speak of, and dry and sunny conditions. Perfect day for a Spin! I suggested this to Dave and he liked the idea, no surprise, and even asked where I would like to go. The new Crate and Barrel in Geneva IL was my choice, so off we went.
Dave has always worked on Saturdays and being retired has not yet gotten the feeling of what Saturdays out in the world are like. What was he missing? TRAFFIC. Still he was a good sport and being in his favorite auto in the sun helped. The new Crate and Barrel is in a busy new shopping center along a road of brand new shopping centers. Actually one can drive an hour along this road and continually be tempted by brand new stores. All the lots are full of shoppers even now after the holidays.

And then I was stopped dead in my tracks by this table setting, in pink and white. Gorgeous,
with opalescent salad plates and pink embroidered placemats.
And great opalescent serving platters and pink vases. So Springtime and girly.
We bought a few items, like this reduced Christmas bag, full of hazelnut chocolates for $2.50 which was reduced 75% from it's original price. We rescued it.
And this chartreuse lime zester because I broke mine. Don't ask me how. Everything for Spring is lime, orange or aqua.
We couldn't pass up this pair of magnetic kitchen shears, which will serve us well and not get lost, being stuck to the refrigerator, and having its own pouch. Is this a good idea or what?
And is it possible to pass up a red veggie peeler like this one? Absolutely not. I felt so good in the hand and the blade is soooo very sharp that one must use caution or one might slip and cut oneself...
Really it didn't hurt.
On the way home we had to check out the new Trader Joe's grocery shop, having been advised by Judy Coates Perez that their house wine, Charles Shaw was good plus cheap and so it was. We got one of each just to try them out, and had a lovely fruit and cheese tray when we got home with one bottle of Merlot. Very light, with a touch of bubbliness which was a surprise. It must have been the bubbles that started us dancing and soon the stereo was blasting and I was transported back to the days of disco...two hours later I was limp as a rag, panting and sweating and ready for the showers. Was that a magic potion or what?
It's a miracle I can walk today.
The soufflé looks SO yummy! I think it was just a bit excited to get out of the pan.
ReplyDeleteGood grief woman!! You are a danger to yourself- at least in the kitchen (you know, that's grounds for involuntary admission to the psych ward). Still, I LOVE that red peeler. I have been adding red to my yellow kitchen since I picked up a red dishdrainer last summer and it looked so good I had to get this really cool red fan. Now I wish I had gotten the red mixer.....

Congrats on the size 8s! I was a 10, that became a snug 14, am now a 12, and heading back down, so I can relate. I just *look* at pictures of things that taste good LOL!
ReplyDeleteAqua, lime and orange...oh my...wish there were a Crate and Barrel near me...but then, bless the internet! Add in a dash of plum/magenta, and a buttery mango yellow, and you have my favorite colors.....

What a coincedence - I just made a souffle last week. Yours looks tons better despite the over zealous eggage. I should have used a smaller dish for mine. C&B is looking pretty fantastic. I may have to go have a peek sometime this week and leave my wallet at the office.
