TV is fun

The Crew arrived early but I was just as ready as I was gonna be, so no problemo. They set up in the downstairs kitchen because of the open space and the showbiz lighting that I had already installed as a necessary part of my regular life. I live a fantasy of being in show biz, as you know, and here it is coming right to me. You just gotta be prepared.

This is the sound person Kerman with her phallic boom mike. She is sitting in for the talent. Me!

Frank the cameraman and the director Lisa? ( I am braindead and will have to depend on Frieda to remind me of her real name.) Big Green is unfinished and not ready to be shot, but nonetheless has to be the backdrop for my interview. Coincidentally my pallor is also green, so we coordinate.

My halogen spotlights ensure that the quilts look good. Everything looks better in spotlights.

We had to drag out the oldies but goodies too. Luckily I am also prepared with a good quilt hanging system, just in case TV people need a different backdrop.

After the interview we switched to my studio where I was all prepared to demo the Famous Escape Hatch Finish. Instead I was cajoled into demoing free motion machine quilting. Damn.

I did get to talk about my new Cruciform series work and show the sketches etc. But having the two unfinished quilts as examples nearly obliterated my fragile ego. One wants one's work to be presented as complete, not with threads dangling and wrinkled unquilted parts visible. Eeeuuoww.
They left at about 1:30, just as Dave was returning from getting his stitches removed. We had a bowl of chicken soup and we took to our bed. I stayed tucked in until this morning at 8am.

I have nothing better to do today than stay in bed and get better. I think a bowl of chicken soup for breakfast sounds perfect.

  1. Wonderful Mel! Just wonderful! When will it air?

You now will have to write about your hanging system and put it up as a link in your side bar :)

Love the behind the scenes action! Will this just be aired in Wisconsin? I am sure many of us in different states would love to see it.

  4. I think you and your quilts all looked superfantastic. You'd never know from the photo that you weren't feeling your best.

    Hope you get well soon.

  7. I'm green (envy, it's ugly).

I hope that I'll be able to see it on my Wisconsin PBS. They had better advertise. You look lovely and so do the quilts and ohsoprofessional and tv hostish.

Also, although I believe that your escape hatch method is a gift to all mankind, your machine quilting is definitely the most superior in the western world. So, it's good that you demonstrated it. I remember sitting there watching you do that and you telling me to practice. I think I'll just envy yours instead. Lazy me. OK, I'm rambling. Love you. Congrats. Feel better.

I have to dispute one thing...NOT everything looks better in spotlights....I am living proof.

However, YOU (and the quilts) look great!! Amazing what we can do when we have to.

Now that it's over, you are fully justified in crawling into bed and staying put until you feel better. I think a good business for someone would be "Jewish Mom on Wheels" to deliver that magical cure of REAL, homemade chicken soup and the extra care we all need when we are sick.
