Relaxing in California

I have been enjoying myself immensely with my hostess Maryanne and her pal from Boston, Betsy. On Sunday we sat and watched movies (On Demand) and KNIT!!! I am in knitter's heaven. On Monday I had lunch and got the tour of San Francisco with my friend and fellow teacher Sandi Cummings. We exchanged quilts which we made for each other, and I love mine!

I usually bring something with me to knit on the plane, and did so this time. And I knit at Art Quilt Tahoe, and pretty soon I had finished several new shawls. Before I left I had made a few of these shoulder-covering cozies and they are quick and fun to knit so I made a decision to make one of each of the colors I usually wear. So...
I made one in white furry, red eyelash, black eyelash, yellow/pink multi-mohair, purple fleece, teal eyelash/sparkly Dune, and one in purple eyelash and sparkly Dune. Um, is that 7 shawls? Yup.
Ooops. I had the yarn for most of these with me. HONEST. Well actually, you know, the first four were made at home. Buy I got the other three made here knitting along with my hostess and Betsy.
However, we had to go to several yarns stores, several times just to fill in the gaps on our planned projects and you will be surprised that I spent the least, returning four skeins, well exchanging them for better stuff, and ended up only spending $30. I am not kidding. My compatriots spent hundreds, not counting fabric. Don't tell a soul...
Last night we stayed at a Amazing Yarns in Redwood City an hour past closing time finding oodles of gorgeous yarns to fondle and buy. I kept thinking that these yarns are ones that I have at home, in white, waiting for me to hand dye. I will do this for sure now that I resisted buying any of these goodies.

It's a good thing I was conservative, since I somehow managed to lose my $600 DIGITAL camera. I am a great big MORON. Yes we looked everywhere, called everyone, and NO got.
I am sad sad sad. However I will soldier on.

I know you would rather see pictures, and I promise you will shortly. When I get home. I may even order a replacement online. Just so it will arrive before or when I arrive.

When you travel it's always something.

  1. Did you appeal to Saint Anthony for help in finding the camera? Never give up until you've said it and waited for a day or two. Hangeth in and continue to knit on!

  2. GASP! I can't believe that you lost your camera. Hopefully, it will turn up. Maybe some groupie snagged it and put it in their MELODY SHRINE.

It's cold and rainy in our neck of the woods, so enjoy that California weather, Melody!

  3. Oh, so happy you got to spend time with Sandi. I consider her to be my # 1 art quilt mentor. Just love her and her spontaneous work. Sorry about the camera. I am going to put a label on mine so that if it gets lost, I might get it returned if the person is at all honest.
