Stacked Boxes
Hand dyed cottons, fused and machine quilted 29.5 x 24” $500
Originally inspired by the Bon Bon series, I wanted to work in other color ways that don’t relate as much to sweetness. I went for that end of the spectrum where colors are warm but veer away from full intensity and I included some very light tints, down to dark textured greens. To contrast with the warmth I used blues and violets.
I used a few slivers of printed cottons for texture, but tried to keep them to a minimum. The 'dirty' greens in the background are some that I dyed this year, and I just HAD to use them.
Be still, my heart!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous - just looking makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteStunning. This blue is just magic, and I think it was a great decision to use a less brilliant colour as a "frame" and allow the blues and oranges to make their show!
ReplyDeleteLOve the dirty green......totally nails it!
ReplyDeleteSpectacular!
ReplyDeleteGreta effect
ReplyDeletethe colours sing!
Oh, how nice to see you making quilts again. This is wonderful -- love how it does focus on cool colors and yet it has a lot of warmth and zing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful piece! And I love the dirty greens popping those blues, reds, ect. A real eye treat.
ReplyDeleteO Wow! Yeah, that's just sooo cool! I've been off the reservation for a while, so good to see you back into the thick of things. I'll get back in my studio one of these days. Maybe. =) Love what you're doing with the place, love your merry mess!
ReplyDeleteI'm so in awe of your work! The colors sing, the design totally grabs my attention... you are a real inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThat fabulous blue against the dirty green is so effective.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the peek at your process with the studio.
This one knocks my socks off! I love the greens and the tiny strips of color. I love everything about it!

ReplyDeleteI love your new piece "Stacked Boxes" - it is a stunning knockout! Love your vibrant colors, especially those blues paired with the oranges and greens. Another winner!!
ReplyDeleteThis comment is a little late but I just read this post. This work really reminds me a lot of the cross series you did a while back. Maybe I'm off but I see the cross right away before anything else strikes me. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteLove it! As others have said, the green is a really great foil for that AWESOME blue and bright orange! The lime green little slivers also work...I wouldn't have thought to combine them with the dark, "dirty" green!
ReplyDeletegorgeous color Mel, those olives and electric blue are to dye for!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have your sister living so close now, I can see life is sweet.
Gorgeous piece! Your dirty greens really make this pop.
