Hard to imagine that there could be a deck built on this slope, and I am pinching myself to make sure it really happened.
There are still some final touches to do, but we are at 90% I think. The stucco needs paint on two more sides and the landscaping at the entrance and surrounding the deck will be going on as the season progresses.
I was delighted to get mushroom compost as the majority of the fill and the rest is Miracle Grow garden soil, so these plants are in for a treat. I planted the whole thing in 5 hours today, mostly sitting down. The planters are at the perfect height for my reach. The list of plants: some rescued hosta from under really huge hostas, salvia in blazing red, blue salvia, lots of colors of 24 sweet potato vines, New Guinea impatiens, white liriope for contrast with the dark vines, celosia, and begonias. Great deck! It blends in well with the landscaping. I have never seen this sort of design. I like the built in planter boxes. I, too, would not have thought it possible to build a deck on a slope like that (not that I know anything about construction!).
