Before and After : The Deck
Hard to imagine that there could be a deck built on this slope, and I am pinching myself to make sure it really happened.
There are still some final touches to do, but we are at 90% I think. The stucco needs paint on two more sides and the landscaping at the entrance and surrounding the deck will be going on as the season progresses.
I was delighted to get mushroom compost as the majority of the fill and the rest is Miracle Grow garden soil, so these plants are in for a treat. I planted the whole thing in 5 hours today, mostly sitting down. The planters are at the perfect height for my reach. The list of plants: some rescued hosta from under really huge hostas, salvia in blazing red, blue salvia, lots of colors of 24 sweet potato vines, New Guinea impatiens, white liriope for contrast with the dark vines, celosia, and begonias. Here's a slide show. To see the captions, click on the left bottom side.
It's going to be beautiful when it's in full bloom!
ReplyDeleteI really would enjoy sitting there on the deck in the cool breeze of a hot summer day! Where are ya? Lol, it is going to be an oasis when it is fully in bloom. Wow, you are certainly blessed; beautiful house also.

ReplyDeleteSo nice, Melody~I predict many happy hours spent on your deck! It will be so nice when all your plants reach maturity and fill in! Congrats on a job well done!
ReplyDeleteAbsoutely, totally, incrediably, astoundingly fantastic and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, really great job.
Great deck! It blends in well with the landscaping. I have never seen this sort of design. I like the built in planter boxes. I, too, would not have thought it possible to build a deck on a slope like that (not that I know anything about construction!).
ReplyDeleteWow - this is really going a real feast for the senses
ReplyDeleteIt looks really, really nice, Melody. What a perfect spot to relax. Great job by all. :)
ReplyDeleteI looks so nice that I want to bring a book and a cup of hot tea and just sit and enjoy.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely spot, so good to see the fruits of your labor come together so beautifully! I haven't visited for a while but it is always nice to see the garden's progress, the dog being CUTE and the new work coming from your studio. Glad the storms missed you! Hugs from Virginia.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'm jealous! Melody, I am now knitting 2 socks at once from the toe up. I don't know if I ever told you-you inspired me to knit socks. I will post pictures on my blog soon www.roxanelessa.com/blog
ReplyDeleteP.S. I can see myself and you doing yoga out there. Take a look at Namaste yoga for free yoga podcasts with a great teacher. Very down to earth, lots of modifications for olds like us. Her name is Dr. Melissa West.
ReplyDeleteWow, you have such vision. That deck makes a world of difference on your property. You could have been a professional landscaper if you wanted. Thanks so much for sharing this project. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteWow. I am sitting here feeling absolutely GREEN with envy- as we had frost on my car two mornings ago, and well, my garden is no where near what yours is. It is truly lovely.
