Sunset Blossoms
Hand dyed cottons, fused, machine quilted

This long and skinny quilt did not fit into that IKEA frame, which is really OK, since one corner of the frame had 'stretched' open and therefore wasn't usable. If it had been secured with a staple or something else replaceable I would have tried to fix it, but there was also a dent in the aluminum clading, so no way was it worth it. One thing I didn't consider: securing the quilt in the frame. It bulged out in the center without the glass to hold it in place. Nevermind.
One of the things I love best about quilts is that they really don't require mounting or framing. No fuss, no bother.
Since I am now sharing my studio space with the family room, I have eliminated some excess storage equipment, and tables, and have pared down my work surfaces. This quilt was an try out to see if I could make quilts more efficiently. Happy to say it works perfectly. My big white table is easily and temporarily positioned next to my pressing table, and now can go back against the other wall, after the fabric is put away. My sewing table is back up against the yarn wall and under the stereo where I could use headphones if I so desired. Yesterday I switched on Netflix and watched a movie ( not worth mentioning which one, blah) while I cut tiny flowerettes, thus saving my sanity. I quilted for an hour or two and then finished up early this morning.
Not my usual mad mess.

Chester ran down the stairs with Chumley when they heard lunch being made, so I guess that drama is over. Go figure.

Oh man, I love that quilt!!
ReplyDeleteI like all the little blossoms. It must have taken a long time to cut them all out.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is absolute eye candy! When doesn't food trump fear for puppies and humans?! Beth
ReplyDeleteSometimes dogs have short memories; maybe Chester forgot he was afraid of the stairs. Or maybe FOOD FOOD FOOD distracted him, which often works with a male of any species.
ReplyDeleteWowsie! I love all of your work but this one I especially love. Just beautiful. Thank you for bringing such beauty to life.

Ooh, this is LOVELY! So glad your new space makes art making and being part of the family one and the same - HOORAY!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Is the background one of your hand dyes or is it painted? The quilt is stunning!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha on the drama, dogs!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I'm coveting this one--it talks to me. The snowflake effect is brilliant and simple at the same time. It is wonderful to be able to express yourself each day and to live in the moment. I'm looking forward to the same--3 more months - then retirement. So must stand firm and not buy this.......................yet - the future with no wage income is a tad scary but I think I'm ready. I saw your tamale picture--Son and I will do Dad's recipe on Xmas day in lieu of a traditional Christmas dinner. Thank you for sharing cousin.
ReplyDeleteWonderful.
