It's been a big week for adding to my fabric stash. You might think that a dyer like me wouldn't be buying solid cottons, but you'd be wrong. One can't even buy the base fabric to dye for the price of these already dyed fabrics. On the left is Joann's Country Classic cotton which I got 25% off of $4.99= $3.74. And on the right is Connecting Threads cotton which were on sale for $3.44. Next week the Country Classic cottons will be on sale at Joann's for $2.49, and most of my fave colors will be gone by then, but I'll be returning anyway to get what is left. As it is I got three or four colors that were end of bolt. Sometimes I can find that bargain price online, and that is fabu, since I now know the names of the best colors.
The Connecting Threads cotton has very wide selvedges compared to Joann's brand.
But then it is much wider than Joann's and much finer weave too. Joann's cotton is lighter weight and Connecting Threads is heavier. I like them both obviously. Joann's cottons are very vibrant, which does go with my taste, but Connecting Threads has such a nice sheen, subtle but definitely something I like.
So, I guess now that I have invested in all these cottons, I am committed to making lots more quilts. I was worried about having a reason to add to the already overflowing collection here in the studio, closets, and attic, but essentially I am continuing to make them because I AM A QUILTER.
I love your last paragraph. I have been feeling the same way, but had yet to accept the fact that I AM A QUILTER. Lol. Thanks for reminding me.
ReplyDeleteI have always been under the impression that Connecting Threads' fabrics are from one of the major manufacturers but without their label. I didn't think CT had their own line of fabric. Can you tell whether they resemble another maker's weave, etc.? I'm more inclined toward the heavier weave on the solids myself....

I enjoy reading your blog regardless of what topic you're covering, but nothing gets my creative juices flowing like reading one of your posts about a quilt you're working on or have worked on. You've got such a great sense of color and line and seeing your quilted works always brings me such joy. Quilt on!
