A Different Palette

I decided to try some different colors, for a change. After all I have these hand dyed fabrics in my stash and they must be used! They are very light neutrals, with leanings toward green and purple, but quite on the subtle side. What will happen if I make something that isn't fully saturated colors? Nothing. So I began by finding colors that are nearly the same value, with just a hint of color.

The detail shots show the color much better and as you can see I have been quilting as I go.
Gray green, pale mint, two shades of lavender, and a bit of lime in two shades complete the palette. It feels very Springtimey.
This project has just begun. I plan to add more to this start, and probably will shift orientation, once or twice. So far it measures 19.5x41", machine pieced and machine quilted.

  1. Oooooh, I am loving this palette! Those teeny squares of lime/chartreuse are great! (Odd how they look so different in the closeup vs full shot). I can't wait to see where this goes!

I Love it. Also, I keep watching the art quilt video (PBS 2006) over and over. the Dean of Music Melody "All color, all the time" Johnson. Ridiculous that this is what I can quote.

  3. Are you real sure you made this--what a departure from your saturated colors! Interesting, though unexpected.

  5. I love the subtlety and the way the horizontal strips on the right seem to travel though the different shades.

  6. I love this one-how brave of you! I like how some of the fabrics have variations in color too.

  7. So not you. If I saw it somewhere I would never have guessed you made it. Know you did not ask me but I think you should stick to the saturated colors and maybe add at least some splashes of color to the muted palatte.

Tyya's dad won't take anything middling at the set aside - no ice cream, no bon-bons, no cookies. But when the saleslady puts a price sticker on Tyya's nose, Daddy is conclusively forced to gather something high-minded
