I'm trying it out for size on the guest bed and auditioning the placement of the rows of triangles. I have enough half square triangle blocks for seven rows to be shared at the top and foot of the quilt, but maybe, I will do three at each end and save the rest for a sham. The black and red will be repeated somehow, to help tie it into the rest of the piece. It looks bigger than I expected here on the bed. Forget what I said about wanting to make it 96" long. Somewhere nearer 86" will be sufficient.
The pink headboard is insisting this thing is not red but pink. O...OK.Whatever.
Now here's the thing. It lies perfectly flat on the bed, with no smoothing or dinkin' around to get it to look nice, but on the pinup wall, it pouches out terribly, signifying that I quilt the big center square much looser than the surrounding borders. Hmmm. Let that be a lesson to me.
The colors are so yummy Mel! Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing missing off this bed is a chester na a chumley
ReplyDeleteAnother home run. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteLove it. The black and red stripes in the borders really anchor the colors. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThis is just scrumptious, Melody! When it's completed, would you show us the backside, please? I'm interested in seeing how the seams look, if you don't mind. I remember Georgia Bonesteel (or was it Eleanor Burns? Both?) promoting this method and I think I did some small pieces for a class I was teaching at the time, but nothing the size (or loveliness!) of your quilt-in-progress.
ReplyDeleteYou are such an inspiration in so many ways. I'm enjoying seeing you discover the joys of piecing.
Wonderful job with this Melody. Have enjoyed watching the progression.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a show stopper in any bedroom. Gorgeous. Isn't it funny that you have come full circle in your quilting? You make me want to piece and lord, I hate piecing.
ReplyDeleteZOMG - so beautiful. I'm drooling...
ReplyDeletePink? Red? Who cares. It's gorgeous! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI have never wanted to try QAYG until I saw your results. I have loved seeing your quilts and now I want to give it a try. Due to family issues I haven't sewn in months but I think I will try at least a small quilt. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove it. The black and red border really sets it off.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. A work of art, really. The boldness of the red&black border - and how it goes with the pink and yellow triangles is exiting. Would have frowned if someone had told me about that plan before.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!
ReplyDeletelove it. as always i love the colors and your fabric combination.
ReplyDeleteWow, just beautiful. I love the black and red and how you alternated with the smaller border of black and red, it really takes the eye to the center.
ReplyDeleteFantastic job.
SPECTACULAR quilt, Mel!!! I just love the colors...don't you just love Kaffe's colors?
ReplyDeletegreat quilt
OMG this is off the charts!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Need to put a pair of sunglasses beside the bed so whom ever sleeps there can get to sleep with the bright colors!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous & gutsy! I like the triangles up above the red/black border
ReplyDeletePretty effective piece of writing, much thanks for your article.
