I had a lovely day on the town yesterday, knitting, having a great lunch at Ruby Tuesday's with Mary, (we had a coupon!) and getting a few errands run. I got a new red Kitchenaid Immersion Blender, for Dave to make his milk shakes easily, a 10 yard bolt of 60" wide white muslin for quilt backs at Joann's (on sale $2.99 a yd. woowoo!) and a cable for my mp3 player to connect to my radio upstairs. Music in my room, at last. 
The garden is going nuts and I thought you might like to see what's going on. The hyacinth bean is vining up to the roofline as I had hoped and producing pink flower stalks as well as lots of purple seed pods. The sweet autumn clematis is just starting to bloom and will continue to open the zillions of buds for months to come. It is a real harbinger of fall.
The pond garden still looks good despite benign neglect.
In the front we have the overtaking sweet potato vines. Definitely happy here. And the begonias, a real surprise since they were purchased nearly dead, and only 8 cents a plant. I am definitely having them again next year. I'll be getting around to planting the hydrangea and heuchera soon...she says.
And how weird is this that the magnolia is alternately having mildew problems and blooming on new growth?
The main Dawg holds down the fort, waiting for me to stop fooling around and give him his breakfast. Lots of basil in several spots in the garden...must make pesto today.
In the Daily Dawg pic on the porch - it looks like a quilt hanging outside on the porch....is that a painted thing like the Barn Quilts or do you have a regular ol' fabric piece hanging outside? Inquiring Minds want to know!

It is lovely to see all of the growing things. Where I I've they are all shriveling up for lack of rain....even the earth is cracked and shrinking. Thanks for a lovely trip to the oasis!
ReplyDeleteI lol at the blender for Dave. You are smart. Your gardens are lovely. Try some copper based spary for the magnolia. It will take care of mildew and mold in a safe way.
ReplyDeleteThat cleome does kind of look like a creature from outer space, though I can't claim that I've ever seen one! I love those planter boxes around your patio, What an inviting spot!
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are so lovely, your garden is so lovely even your dawgs are so lovely (My daughter has a pug called rocky so I have to show her pics of your dogs on a regular basis) I wish I lived closer so i could visit!

Heavens your garden certainly gets going, seems only the other day you were doing the new area to sit in and now look at it. All looks so gorgeous, especially as here we are in muddy cold winter with a few early spring blossoms.
ReplyDeleteOk, a friend gave us fresh basil yesterday at Bee. What is your receipe for pesto? I have never made it but love it...and I'm so jealous of your garden... mine seems to grow weeds very well, but the rest is just "there".
