Construction

I promise not to bore you with daily shots, but the new deck is in progress and that means I need to be available to answer questions. I have already enlarged the project by a couple of feet.
While the workers are here, I busied myself in the kitchen making sausage and chorizo, and preserving the basil with basil-garlic butter and freezing it. Then I made us a nice lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon reading Guilt by John Lescroart (fabulous!!)
I can't really work in the studio, since it is the pathway between the driveway and the deck site, and the workers make lots of crosstrips, so I am considering a little construction of my own.
Last year I dinked around and made this beret.

I made some foolish promise that I would write out the instructions, which I should have done right then, when I remembered what I had knit, sorta. I do remember that the most difficult part is starting. Eek. I started at the top not at the ribbing. And getting that little circle of four stitches on four needles is enough to dry up anyone's enthusiasm. But today I had an idea. How about what the Aran knitters do with small cables...they use toothpicks instead of double pointed needles which are really so big and hard to handle when holding so few stitches.
I am going to give it a go. See you later.

  2. I'm not a knitter, but your solutions sounds absolutely genius! I can't wait to hear how it went.

that sounds like it would work. I have some short sets of 4 needles - they are used for knitting the fingers on gloves. Toothpicks would be good so long as they don't split or catch on your yarn - you could sand down the points to be not so sharp and pointy:)

    Good luck
By the way - love the Treehouse mini quilts recently.

  4. I love this beret! I can only knit up and down...very basic stuff so I might have to buy one from you but I have a huge huge head. Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
