Prairie Points Two Ways

I mentioned to my sister Brooke that I was planning to insert some purple and blue prairie points in the wip quilt Starring Yellow. She said, "Hmm, I'll have to look those up" meaning how to make them. For her and anyone who hasn't made them, here's a mini-tutorial.

1. Begin with a square of fabric, any size will do. 2. Fold it in half.

3. Fold down one edge......................................4. Fold down the other edge. Prairie Point made.

And then there is my cheater way which uses half the fabric. (this can also be done with fused fabric and requires no sewing at all.)

1. Begin with a rectangle.........................................2. Fold over and press about 1/4" along the edge.

3. Press together in the middle..........................4. Open up and fold back the short ends, stitch along the top edge.

The finishes sewn PP and one inserted in the seam of a block. Can you tell if this was made using half the fabric or a full square? I can't.

Anticipating the next question: I undid part of a seam, squeezed a PP into the opening, pinned it carefully in place and resewed the seam. I then trimmed off the excess fabric so it would not show through the light yellow fabrics.

Thank you for the listing of blogs you read on the right hand side. I read most of the bloggers that you do, and knowing when they last updated is very helpful.

  3. I also had to look them up when you mentioned them and inwardly groaned cause it looked like something that would take FOREVER to make. However, you make it look reasonably easy. And I LOVE the idea of them popping out of seams here and there! YAY! I hope you post photos soon, I'm eager to see how this comes out!

  4. Thanks Melody... one question. Do you put the seamed side up or down on your pp's? I always thought the seamed side went down, but looking at the photos it appears you inserted it, with the seam side up.

Thanks for the clarification. I always wanted to incorporate PP, but never really took the time to figure them out.

Going to Ikea on Saturday with the newly engaged ones. Expecting to have some fun with that. That red dresser is just fabulous.
