Return to the Rumdum

Deliciously fitting jeans for moi

While my sister and niece were here we made a point of shopping at Glory's favorite shop, the Rumdum. Rumdum is a family moniker for any thrift shop, rummage or garage sale. America's Thrift Store is a huge rumdum and we spend many a lovely nickel and dime there last week. Unfortunately, there are no provisions for trying on garments, but they do have a great return policy. Today we went back to return what didn't work out and I got a big store credit which I turned right around and spent.

One of the best bargains I got was this king size sheet for $4.88. Brand new. We have no king beds, but my plan is to use it to line my soon to be made duvet and curtains. I will have more than enough.

Then I got four pairs of summer shorts. I am ahead of the game now. All have pockets except the pink ones, which are still tagged, brand new also.

I am out of focus, it's not you.

I am modeling my new jeans. If you are a long time reader you may remember me buying bunches of jeans in size 8, just because they fit. Now that is a distant memory, and I am happy to be able to say that my diet has allowed me to fit into these, more or less comfortably, in a size with double digits. I'm workin' on getting back to single digits, but these will keep me engaged, for only $2.48. It turns out that they are Wrangler's for women and come with room for thighs.

Next door to the Rumdum is a humongous Used Books and CD store. The parking lot was full of cars, so we figured there must be something worth looking at in there.
Yipes!
Thousands of really good books, really well organized and cheap.

I got these three, a garden and 2 crime.............. and Dave got 101 Poems that could save your life. Hmm.

It was a great day out, nothing creative got done, but now with that large sheet, I have nothing to prevent starting that quilt top. Yippee!
O I almost forgot. My new pink boots arrived today. They are for slogging in the pond, clearing out the weeds and prickly bush things. As soon as it gets a bit warmer and the pond thaws I will be trying these babies out.

A fun post Ms Mel. Where are the ducks this time of the year? The pond is frozen over, do they just wander about in the yard?

  5. The ducks were someone's dinner. They were 'sitting ducks' and either coyotes or foxes were eager to take advantage.
We were sad, but really, we weren't that close.

Your rumdum finds gave me the urge to visit my fave thrift store, which kindly features a half-off day for oldsters over 55. I scored big too- six queen sheets for a total of $3.98, and a big bag of every kitchen utensil ever shown on TV for $2.95. The sheets will be cut into patterns for wing chair slipcovers, because muslin is too spendy for me. Now all I have to do is start. Could you send some inspiration my way please?

  7. 1. From whence did you order the boots? I have always had nice muscular calves, but they never fit in boots, and I need them for mucking about her eon the homestead. I see yours have buckles- they could work for me!
    2. The women in my family love rumdums too, only in our lingo, we say we're "goin' truckin'".
3.A tip for the rumdums with no try-on rooms- take the pants in question, and holding them at each side of the waistband, see if you can get the ends around your neck- if they just slightly overlap, they will most likely fit around your waist. If you have a bit of a tummy like I do, try to get the ends to overlap a bit. If the ends don't meet at all- too small.
Hope that helps, say Hi to Dave for me,
    LB
