Quilt By Committee: Part B

I removed the two busiest strips and replaced them with a couple of more cohesive strips. If I had not shown the quilt yesterday there would be nothing to compare this one to. So now that I've done that there will be those of you who prefer yesterday's piece over this one.

On the other hand, if you were new to the party, in which you may only have seen today's version, you might like it better when you scroll down to yesterday's top.

OR... For you, it might have to be vertical to do the trick.

I can tell you this. Don't try this at home. It is nerve wracking. One cannot please everyone, and sometimes it is difficult enough to please oneself. If I put this away for a month and pull it out and look it at again, I am sure I will love it more than I do at this very moment.

PS. I had to change this post after I saw how dark both of these looked in the previous posting. Now the color is truer, and for those of you who commented...I got your comments and saved them. Thank you.

  2. When I saw this I said - OHHHH pretty!! But I like the busy one from yesterday too. I really like the lighter parts in the center of this one, and the lighter touch of HOT colors! Very nice. ps- thanks for tip about pencil sharpener - I'm getting one!

  4. How big is this baby? Since we all helped are you going to pass it around for each of us to enjoy like the Sisterhood of Pants idea? I wouldn't mind having this little bit of springtime and sunshine the last week of February. Just thought I would reserve my week if it was a possibility.

Hard to believe that today's quilt is essentially yesterday's minus the busiest/brightest piece. I am prone to compose bright and busy. I always read about adding quieter, softer, less saturated elements to bring out the best in the piece. Here is that principle in action.
The new piece is beuatiful, complicated, and infinitely more sophisticated.
What did I miss about the pencil sharpener???

  6. Sorry I forgot to post the size. It is 45x32 before quilting. I see now they are each getting slightly larger, one after the other.

I have to quilt it, and then they are going to be joined by #4 in the series for which I am searching the stash for colors as we speak.

And the pencil sharpener is from a comment that I made on the commentors blog...she got new colored pencils and I got a new pencil sharpener at Target that she must have!

Well, loved the others, but adding the quieter strip is a definite improvement. Love the complexity of the patterns and colors.

  8. LOVE the one from yesterday of the blues with warm colors. The diagonal areas add interest to the over all design.

  9. Mrs. Mel with the unerring eye. This version is so calm and yet so exciting. Love the subtle way the values are light in the middle and darken around the edges. Keep going!
