Lavender Blues

Lavender Blues

Hand dyed cottons, fused, machine quilted. 21"x9"

As I was cleaning off my worktable, I found some scraps that led me to find some more, that led me to put this composition together. Since my arm was still sore I did very little cutting and no hand work on this piece.

Since the hand work highlights areas on the other pieces I chose to use contrasting threads for the quilting on this one. At one point I used two 40wt poly threads through one needle to make the stitches more visible. The needle was a size 75/11, but it still worked. I went slow.

It was difficult not to do something with my hands yesterday, but I did stay home, since it is so blasted cold here in Illinois. Too cold to shop and really I can't think of a thing I need. I am wearing a hat and socks to bed, so the fashion around here is very low key. And I am told I have enough yarn.

Speaking of yarn...I admit I did have to knit a bit last night, surrepticiously. What does one do while watching TV if one doesn't knit or stitch? After an hour I felt this was a bad idea, so instead I found another project that needed to be unknit. I unknit as many items as I knit. This is the good thing about the craft, as it is so recycleable.

Even though I have oodles of yarn now, it is somehow more tempting and challenging to use scraps of things and make them work into something wonderful.

  2. This is a great piece, as are all of your pieces of late. I was wondering, do you fuse these pieces exclusively, or is some of it machine pieced?

  3. If I do the funky chicken while doing continental style knitting, my shoulder KILLS me. I've learned to tuck that elbow and not "throw" that yarn, just lift with my fingers.

I can't watch TV without something in my hands either...I fall asleep!
