And now we pause for a little house cleaning...

I have been watching those house shows again, where the homeowners can't seem to unload their house because it is a mess. The other day even Chastity Bono was the seller.
The tv people come in and clear out the clutter and stage the place so it sells quickly.
I usually like what the after looks like and vow to do the same for my mess. Here are my before kitchen pictures. Very cluttered bookcase. A dumping ground for stuff.

The kitchen counter, a big space with lots of room for junk to accumulate.

My little gallery shelves need an update and major dust removal.
And a few hours later....
the Tada Moment!
I moved all the cookbooks to the bottom, since usually they are only used for the occasional recipe. And each cubby gets a special item. Cleaned and dust free.

My new paintings all went into one frame and a new small lamp is added to the shelf to highlight the ensemble. Note the clear expanse of counterspace.

And I have set up two monsters to guard the shelf from future clutter.

Fearsome guards.

Your house would now sell in a minute! I need to do the same thing.

  3. Love the paintings on the shelves in the kitchen; actually love the whole idea of kitchen as showcase... of course, I'd have to FIND my counters first!

  4. Sue me, I like the before pictures better :) That's not a cluttered counter top! Clutter is when the pile of bills to be gone through gets so big that a stray draft knocks it onto the floor.

The 'after' pics looks fabulous too; and I wish I had an artistic person in my to add so much color!

  5. That would last five minutes in my house. It looks lovely though. Hey Dave!

What is that lovely little quilty item hanging on the door in the first photo?

  8. Mel, you are welcome to come over anytime to mak my house look like your "before" picture. Your after picture is beautiful and looks more than my house can handle. Maybe I need to create some guards.

The after photos look lovely, but believe me, I'd be very very happy if my house looked like the before photos!
Want a trip to England? (grin).

  10. Wow! ... your clutter is neater than my "Tidy" ...
The problem with de-cluttering is - if I want to have nice half empty looking shelves/benches/etc with only a few items nicely arranged ... where on Earth do I PUT all the other stuff that was on there?!
(no - in the cupboards/etc is not an option - they are already occupied with other stuff ;-)
The other problem is IF I manage to clear space on a shelf/etc, then it just seems to magically fill itself up with clutter again (that tends to happen when all 4 of us tend to be the "I'll just put it here for now" type of people ;-)
er ... I should be out finishing the big sort out I am doing in my sewing/etc room, instead of in here looking at how tidy everyone else is ...
