On the Road Again

A tiny example of my humongous ego... I thought I looked hot for my lecture last night and took a picture of myself in the Holiday Inn bathroom. Twenty pictures to be exact and this one was the closest to being focused. I guess I actually have to wear my glasses to see. Duh.
I am in O'Fallon IL which is an eastern suburb of East St. Louis IL. I drove down yesterday, six lovely sunny hours and stopped at a rest stop and found this cool playground which I thought had a cinder base. I wondered about the thinking of putting cinders down in a playground, but hey, it's Illinois, which has many coal fields, and I guess this is their idea or recycling.

Upon closer inspection, I discovered that it was indeed recycling, but not cinders, TIRES! Shredded tires, chopped up and used as the ground covering. Sorta kool, eh?

Um. That was the highlight of my drive. The rest was corn and soybean fields.

OK.

Today I am doing a workshop in a police station. With quilters. Not behind bars. Altho that is an idea. Imagine being sentenced to five years, and you get to have your stash with you. Ahem. Is this rehabilitation? Could be. I'll mention that to the governor.

OK.

  1. That tire ground cover is also very springy! And it doesn't cause slivers like mulch does. (I know from experience, of course.) Have fun "down state."

  2. I took a workshop once where the conversation turned to the concept of "house arrest" ... We were all thinking longingly of how wonderful that would be, the "punishment" to stay home. And I suspect most of us have enough supplies and fabric that we could get an awful lot done without purchasing a thing.

  3. You'll note that the *camera* is in focus...... :-) That's the thing about autofocus, the camera decides what it wants to focus on, and sometimes the photographer agrees, and sometimes ... not.

In Big Bay, MI (where our property is) the jail is now an art gallery.
