Getting ready to go

Dearest Pals and those who have wandered in,
I am up to my ears in last minute stress. I made a list and whilst the items are getting checked off, other things have managed to creep in.
Like class descriptions for workshop next year, getting those pesky contracts in the mail, laundry ( Melody's Mountain of clothes!) and slide presentations which are supposed to last 10 minutes and so far have over 200 slides involved. You think I am wordy here, ha! I am even more picture-y.

Somehow this stress, and constant travel, and my husband's recent retirement (has it really been six months?) has caused me to
1. knit more than I should resulting in a very sore arm
2. eat more in between meals resulting in tight jeans
3. drink more coffee than usual resulting in sleep deprivation
4. obsess over things that are really not important such as why my mp3 player won't take a charge. I got it to work today and a great sense of relief pervaded my being, and now Frank is singing in my ears while I blog. Phew!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am pretty close to finishing the paperwork and the slides will be edited down to a mere 100, I think. Not everyone has to see the butterfly slide.

I spend much of my rem sleep working through ideas and when I wake up it is all figured out. Thank heaven my brain functions even though I am snoring away. I have a title, SewFree Style, for my new workshop, and have decided exactly what I will be teaching in the next year's classes. SewFree is going to be my new 'arty' description for what it is we will do. It is still fusing, but will include those ideas I have about fusing fabric to matboard and framing them. Woowoo!

You will note that I have added my 2006 schedule to the sidebar here. It is still sketchy, but will be fleshed out in a few weeks when I return (November 20th or so). I will have contact people, emails and addresses, if you want to sign up, and you can also refer to my website, which will describe in detail all the supply lists etc. I will be updating it later this month (or David Walker will really).

I am especially going to promote the Hudson Valley Art Quilt Workshops in April, since this is their first foray into art quilting and they have kindly made me the first one on their list. O My!
What a responsibility I feel to their brave idea.

And then I am going to have my own little retreat workshop this coming July in Indiana, at the Frederick-Talbott Inn. I am calling the two-day class SewFree Art Quilts, which just about covers everything I know how to do. I hope you'll consider these two opportunities to come and play with me.

I have October 5-9th marked off on next years calender. I can't wait for you to come to Yellowknife. I think I will ask if I can be your tour guide! We have great art galleries here loaded with Northern art and so much more. I just e-mailed my friends and told them to ask for holidays already! I can't wait!!!!

I live about 12 minutes (ok, 15) from Connor Prairie!! We will have to plan something when you are *in the neighborhood*!

  3. Have a safe trip Melody. I wish I still traveled sometimes. But I don't budge anymore. I just love staying at home now and spending time in my studio getting into all sorts of crazy stuff.

  4. Just wanted to let you know that the official website for the Art Quilt workshops at Hudson River Valley Art Workshops is http://www.fiberartworkshops.com

You get to the information faster if you go directly there instead of through the www.artworkshops.com website.

Thanks for promoting! We are hitting the road to distribute brochures to as many quilt shops as we can and will also be talking to the guilds in the region.

A lot of brochures were picked up during Festival at Houston (kept me running back to the hotel to get more!).
