Yarn Harlot Comes to Town

Uh oh, I may have to eat my words...

Here she is the woman of the hour, the Yarn Harlot, Stephanie Pearl McPhee. She's Canadian y'know. Huzzah!
She speaks and we are all surprised that she has a lower voice than we imagined. Hysteria ensues. I make sure that I am in the front row since I laugh loud enough to cue the crowd. There is much to laugh about and we are all connecting viscerally, squealing with happiness that the subject is knitting and yarn and stash accumulation beyond life expectancy, and ending guilt about the aformentioned stash.

WE witness the ubiquitous sock and crowd picture taking.
And are only slightly distracted by objects in the periphery.

(psst! Frieda, this one's for you)

It was all Emily's suggestion that we attend this Harlot Glitterati Party. I am so glad she called and invited me. WE were so excited to meet one of our idols, but I had no idea how thrilled I would be. When I spoke, I had real trouble with English. I haven't been this starstruck since meeting Caryl Fallert back in 1987. I gushed and drooled and told Stephanie that I had her button on my blog. I gave her my card and she lied and said she has heard of my blog or me or something kind like that. I wagged my tail and waddled off. I was dizzy and numb.

This awesome sweater posed nicely for me. This is for you Deborah. Purple and Green. Isn't the work lovely?

I must make this darling Boobholder asap. It like it so much better that the original version because it isn't so boob-grabby and short.

I had to wear a sweater that I made, of course. Before I left the house I asked Dave if he thought I looked like someone "Desperate to be Noticed"?

No more than usual...You can't see my coordinating pink and turquoise sox and pink sandles. Too too?

um. These creeped into my bag. I am not gonna dye black yarn. You know I was right to buy these. They were 30% off. And Merino Superwash for heaven's sake!

And, OK these are unnecessary. But they were so lonely and pale and needing overdyeing so badly. And also on sale. I didn't realize until this morning that they are two different weights.

Sometimes I knit something that has no relationship to anything in my wardrobe. This lovely Fleece Artist Boucle Shawl that I knit in Maine earlier this year was just such an orphan. Yesterday I resolved that problem with a pair of velveteen jeans from our dear TJMaxx. Take note of the red sticker on the tag... you know it was a bargain.

Emily and I talked Knitting all the way home and it was a great great day for us both.

  1. Now I adore the green and the purple, as we all know... but I'm not sure I can go for the tunic length stipey number. I know I'm jumping ahead of all your witty text. Never mind me.

  2. Lord, I wish that I knew how to knit. I suppose it's better that I don't, since I'd never get anything done and have a bursting cornucopia of yarns and friends, family and husband begging me to stop making them dickies.

The colors of those yarns are absolutely scumptilli-itious. I'd like to be wound up inside them. Don't anyone read anything into this comment. I'm not into that sort of thing. I swear.

Good score on the Mission Falls sale yarn. I was eyeing that earlier, but refrained from purchasing it since I'm trying to stay on a yarn diet. Sounds like you had a good time meeting Stephanie, too!

  4. Arcadia has Mission Falls on sale?!? I may have to send a friend over, as I'll be going to Chicago in a few weeks but don't want the yarn to get away .... (this doesn't sound healthy, does it? :)

Sounds like you had a wonderful time seeing the Harlot. She's coming to my town soon, and I can.not.wait.
