Process? O, I get it!

I do understand about process. I knit sox for heaven's sake.

Why would anyone in their right mind spend $15 to make a pair of socks like these? Oooh, I've answered my own question!

It is the process. It is making the thing, not the end product that matters, in this case. I have ripped this sock out several times to ensure that the pattern is correct. It is the challenge of doing it that keeps my interest. Not that I won't ever wear this pair...I might. They have an April Fool's Day quality about them.

  1. Wear them?! Of course, they have the delicious purple and green quality about then! I swear, I must start a weekly blog post in homage to the purple and the green. Maybe these socks can be my first guests.

  2. Yeah! That's the process thing! You love doing it, plus you're happy with the result, even though you know that you could do it faster with a knitting machine or just buy the dang things!

  3. Aaah, the joy of Process Knitting. Back when I was just a wee one (yeah, right), I was a product knitter - so much so that most of the garments I made for myself are frighteningly short - the result of wanting the product so much that I would get sick of working the torso area, and decide to make (everything, yup, everything) the garment "cropped". Which does not look good on me. So not one of my product knitting phase garments is wearable!

Now, a Process Knitter, I tend to make things that actually fit (with one laughable FrankenStack exception - you know the one I'm talking about, Mrs. Mel). They fit, and they were a joy to create. I love every stitch. I enjoy the process. And, suddenly, my knitting speed has increased to the point I would have loved as a product knitter, but that saddens me as a process knitter.

Ass-backwards? Yup. Must. Buy. More. Yarn. For Process Knitting.
