JoAnn's 30% Off Moving Sale

The Before Picture....

and then the After Picture in the new Thread Garage

OK so I don't usually like polyester thread, but I have been having a lint problem quilting with my cotton embroidery threads. The cotton thread leaves a teeny glob of lint in my bobbin case and then the tension starts being affected. I usually don't discover this until I change thread colors, and then I have to unquilt that whole area, clean out the bobbin case, and requilt.
Grrrrrr. So I thought I should go back to quilting with rayon. I don't have all the colors I want in rayon, another grrrr, so when Frieda mentioned the sale on at our local JoAnn's, I decided to take a look at their threads. This is Coats and Clark's Trilobal Polyester, 40 wt.. which is thinner than I usually like, so again a compromise... but the sale was good and these spools are 1100 yards, so OK I will give them a try.

Then there was yarn on sale, never to be ignored.

I like this Landscape stuff and have already used it for a helmet hoodie thing for the DH. It is bulky and knits up fast on 11's or 13's and is 50/50 wool and acrylic.

Mi hermansita Rose (my brother's girlfriend) wanted a scarf (no peeking Rose!) and it must be made from the FunFur stuff, and needless to say I must have one too! So there we are! The Wool-Ease will be the base and the eyelash will be the fluff.
The other consideration for the Wool-Ease is a pullover vest. Each skein is almost 200yds! It looks similar to Buttons, a nice New Zealand superwash wool that I have used often. I haven't been able to find any left in red, (being the perfect red for Christmas things, ) and this will do for my vest idea. One can never have too many red sweaters.
The fabrics were all on sale for 30 -70% off so I got some 54" wide cotton prints for quilt backs and some Barbie cosmetic print quiltcloth for smaller backings.
I think I got a pretty good deal on all this stuff, and now on to grocery shopping.

PS. We got to see Laura's new book and it is FANTASTIC. I am ordering a case full and will sell it to all my students, not mail order, just in person. WooWoo!

  1. Rayon thread, eh? Do you ever have trouble with it shredding as you sew?

  2. Hi. I think your work is beautiful! If you have any of the fun fur left over you might be interested in a pattern I just posted at http://fiberevolutionprojects.blogspot.com. I used the same yarn (the pattern shows bernat, but I got some wool ease for another one I knitted). I used size 11 needles and got a good fabric. If you want a looser knit you may want to go up to 13 or even 15.
